350.org Candlelight Vigil Supporting Climate Agreement – Dallas (12/12/09)
Posted by youngsierrans on December 12, 2009
Join environmentally-minded folks tonight at a candlelight vigil outside of EPA Region VI headquarters (on sidewalk area facing Field Street northwest of Fountain Place building at 1445 Ross, Dallas) to demonstrate public support for an agreement strong enough to actually slow climate change. This local action will join thousands of coordinated vigils happening in more than 100 countries as part of 350.org’s “The World Wants a Real Deal” campaign to demand a fair, ambitious and binding climate agreement that lowers the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere below 350 parts per million, what scientists say is the safe upper limit.
Congregations, environmentalist and peace/justice organizations from Dallas and North Texas will meet at EPA’s Dallas headquarters to also express our solidarity with them as they begin addressing the challenge of greenhouse-gas pollution, as well as to express our deep concerns about the future of our planet, through words, prayer and music.
The vigil begins at 5:00 pm. There will be a press conference at 5:30 p.m. with speakers from the Dallas Sierra Club, Downwinders at Risk, the Dallas Peace Center, the Interfaith Environmental Alliance and others.
