Kayaking and Clean Up – White Rock Lake – Dallas (4/11/09)

Posted by youngsierrans on April 2, 2009

wrlsuPlease join us on Easter weekend as we do some spring cleaning at White Rock Lake as part of the Second Saturday Shoreline Spruce-up organized each month by the For the Love of the Lake organization.  We will be joining the Kayak Power (KP) cleaning team.  Optional group lunch follows.

Date: Saturday – April 11th, 2009

Meeting Locations/Times:
+ Option 1 – Meet at the For The Love Of The Lake office (1152 N Buckner Blvd, 75218 – map) after 8:00am to have a complimentary breakfast and pick up clean up supplies.  Peter (green t-shirt) will be here until 8:40 and then drive over to meet the KP group.
+ Option 2 – Meet at KP’s adopted section of the lake, Jackson Point (West side of the lake; 4100 West Lawther Dr, 75214 – map) by 9:00am. Look for the truck and trailer hauling 20 kayaks. See the above KP link for more info.

Weather Policy: Kayak Power will be there rain, snow, wind or shine.  Unless this site states differently, so will the Young Sierrans.

Details: Kayak Power will provide all necessary kayaking and cleaning gear. KP cleans the shoreline of WR Lake from the water. Meaning, we’ll paddle around and collect debris on the lake which isn’t reachable or is challenging to reach from the shore. After collecting trash for about an hour, KP allows participants kayak around the lake. Plan on getting a little dirty and wet.  We’ll kayak for as long as we want.

Cost: Free to participate!!  Lunch – Individual responsibility.

Consider Bringing: drinking water, sunblock, hat, towel, appropriate weather protection (maybe pants – open kayaks expose your legs to the sun), change of pants/shorts.

Hi, my son who is a student at Bishop Lynch is interested in participating this Saturday, is he old enough?

      Hi Julie,
All ages are welcome to participate. Mike Swope, who owns Kayak Power, will simply request that your son complete a liability waiver. Remember, the White Rock Lake clean up is held on the second Saturday of each month (rain or shine).
