* 2009 Update *
The Young Sierrans are not regularly participating in this clean up effort in 2009. However, Peter and a few others may participate during any given clean up. Send Peter an email if you want to know if he, or anyone else, will be out there for a specific weekend.
The Kayak Power (KP) White Rock Lake Clean Up effort is on-going – you don’t need to contact Peter to participate with Kayak Power.
Dates: Monthly – 2nd Saturday
Option 1 – Meet at the For The Love Of The Lake office (Casa Linda Plaza) after 8:00 AM to check in, have a complimentary breakfast and pick up clean up supplies.
Option 2 – Meet at KP’s adopted section of the lake Jackson Point (West side of the lake; 4100 West Lawther Dr, 75214) by 9:00 AM. See the above KP link for a map of the lake and Jackson Point location.
Weather Policy: Kayak Power will be there rain, snow, wind or shine. Unless this site states differently, so will the Young Sierrans.
Details: Kayak Power will provide all necessary kayaking gear and life vest. KP cleans the shoreline of WR Lake from the water. Meaning, we’ll paddle around and collect debris around the lake which isn’t reachable or is challenging to reach from the shore. After collecting trash for about an hour, KP allows for participants to kayak around the lake, if they’re interested. Plan on getting a little dirty and wet.
Consider Bringing: drinking water, sunblock, hat, towel, appropriate weather protection (maybe pants – open kayaks expose your legs to the sun).
